From the introduction to the Project:

How do we understand the present? What new provisional conceptual articulations of the world are necessary today?

As we move through our lived experiences we utilize various complex conceptual systems which set up and shape a particular form of world. This conceptual world stretches out ahead of us and is not a world that we make as we wish -- but we, through our actions, are part of its continuous co-construction.

As an example one of the key distinctions in many of our models that structure our experience is the “subject” and “object” division, which make part of reality active and another part passive. There is a “subject” who acts upon or uses an object. This distinction gives rise to many important related distinction such as between “nature” and “culture” which similarly divides the world into a form of primary and secondary condition. These cosmological systems that utilize these deep cultural assumptions are part of our everyday life that new biological, ecological, and sociological understandings of the world call into question.

We are interested in beginning a general method of rethinking all of these assumptions, and utilizing these new understandings to think forward towards new ways in which to understand and engage with our present actualities. Today it seems pressing to ask if we can we afford to maintain these deep cultural assumptions given the emergence of new forms of reality -- rapid climate change, global migrants, and global urbanization.

This moment call for more than a critique of corporations, ideologies, or systems -- but rather the development of new forms of curiosity. Curiosity towards what is possible today, a curiosity towards what could exist and what we could become. A curiosity that is a form of care for matters of concern and curiosity that is an active experimental care for new practices and new modes of being in the world.

Knowing that these activities are happening everywhere today we ask that you contribute your thinkings on this to a project to develop and further new emergent cosmologies.
