Design is not about producing solutions but about producing problems -- problems that are worth having.

we are ultimately all, for better or worse, designers. we are all shaping our worlds and our selves through our everyday actions. our simple everyday actions of brushing our teeth or adding a skip to our step. the ramifications of these actions ripple across scales and logics. As we brush our teeth mines open, desires are produced, plastics harden, loves unfold, dentist study, and subjectivities shift. Design is not about products. But is also not simply about ideas, systems and networks. It is about things. Things are not objects. Things are the slowing and speeding of systems into material logics and practices that have complex ramifications for both thinking and doing. Things are a type of gathering. The speeds, slowness' and logics of entanglements necessary for such gathering interests us immensely.

All of our work involves forms of making that refuse the logics being first conceptual and then actual. We are interested in moving beyond the problematic logics of “ideas + delivery system” that ties most out practices back to various forms of Platonisms. Matter, Practices, Ideas, Worlds come as a unit. And so we work from this thicket towards this thicket. (for more on this see: link)

spurse design is a way in which spurse can act in a more formal and structured fashion to develop architectural and design based projects. As spurse design we work as a smaller sub-set of spurse -- pulling together the necessary skill sets to complete commissions of all scales in  both a timely, rigorous and experimental manner. We have worked on various projects from houses, to collaborations on art installations to consulting or city-wide urban and cultural questions.
